January
19 - Traveler's Dream from West Lafayette, IN
The return of Traveler's Dream to the library was a thrilling way to open our
9th year of After Hours Concerts. Although it was a rather cold night,
Denise Wilson and Michael Lewis kept a packed room warm and cozy and thoroughly
entertained. They displayed their talents on multiple instruments,
performing Irish, American, Welsh and French Canadian folk songs, along with a
beautiful tune written by Michael. This couple is a joy to hear and a
welcome part of our library concert series.

February
16 - The Born Again Floozies from Indianapolis, IN
The amazing Born Again Floozies wowed the crowd in their first ever After Hours
Concert at the library. It was "Experimental Psychedelic Folk" at its best,
whether in their original tunes or their covers. And playing tuba for her first
Floozies concert was Melissa who just happened to be celebrating her birthday!
This is one band you've got to see perform to really appreciate. Thanks to
the Born Again Floozies for a fun evening. Come back soon!

March
14 - The Sport Coat Jazz Explosion from Batesville High School, with saxophonist
Ron Jones from Louisville, KY
Another great evening of jazz as
the Sport Coat Jazz Explosion once again swung the Batesville Middle School
Commons for an adoring crowd. Earlier, Ron Jones worked with the band, and as
director Adam Kruse stated, "jaws dropped" when they heard him play. The After
Hours audience was no different, and insisted on an encore from the talented
musicians. Thanks to Mr. Jones for working with and encouraging the jazz band
students. And thanks to all who came out to enjoy the music! We'll do it
again next year!
April 19 - The Monika Herzig Acoustic Project from
Bloomington, IN
We celebrated Jazz Appreciation Month and the end of National Library Week
with a thrilling concert by this excellent foursome from Bloomington.
Playing some tasty traditional jazz tunes along with outstanding originals,
this group made our JAM and NLW celebration really special! If only the
camera hadn't malfunctioned, you'd see a photo of this gig! Look for
Monika's group to return to help us celebrate Jazz Appreciation Month,
National Library Week and National Poetry Month!
May
3 - Mohenjo Daro from Cincinnati, OH
Seven years after their last appearance in an After Hours concert at the
library, the world fusion trio, Mohenjo Daro from Cincinnati returned with
their enchanting blend of Western, Indian, and Middle Eastern music.
Thanks to the band for providing another magical evening of music for the
After Hours crowd.
June
14 - Highland Reign from Indianapolis, IN
It was a beautiful evening for music when the talented Highland Reign came
to town with their rockin' Celtic sound. The audience got to clap, shout and
even howl along (see photo at right), and all we were missing were the pints
of Guinness. This band sure knows how to entertain a crowd with traditional
tunes from the old country and original songs that sound like they came from
there. As one of their t-shirts said, "Highland Reign: Plaid to the Bone!"
July
12 - The Late Show from Indianapolis, IN - SummerFest, downtown Batesville
It took a thunderstorm to break up an otherwise unforgettable evening when
this multi-talented classic rock band played for the crowd downtown during
SummerFest. The Late Show got everyone's attention right from the start with
their spot-on harmonies and playing. This band can do it all - from the
Beatles and Zeppelin to the Byrds and the Monkees - they made a lot of fans
that night, even though we only heard half their set. We can't wait to hear
them again!

August
16 - Dennis Stroughmatt & Creole Stomp from Illinois - Grill-Out & Ice Cream
Social
Weather perfect for a grill-out greeted the almost 200 people who attended
our annual Grill-Out and Ice Cream Social at the library. And a perfect band
to play for us all: our favorite "real deal" Louisiana Creole Zydeco, Cajun,
Blues and New Orleans Swamp Pop band, Creole Stomp. Dennis and the band kept
us "chair dancing" right to the end. And what a treat to have Dennis' Mom
and friends on hand! Thanks to the library's Board of Trustees for helping
with the grilling and serving, and the Ron Simons Company for the ice cream.
Next Mardi Gras season, we'll be traveling to Vincennes, IN to see this band
again!
